TVA Energy Right Rebate Program

The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) Energy Right program is a comprehensive initiative aimed at promoting energy efficiency and conservation among residents and businesses within the Tennessee Valley region. Among its various offerings, two of the program's key focuses lies in attic insulation and air sealing. These have been identified as critical components in optimizing energy usage and reducing utility costs for consumers.

Attic insulation plays a pivotal role in maintaining a comfortable indoor environment while minimizing the reliance on heating and cooling systems. By installing adequate insulation in the attic space, homeowners can effectively regulate the temperature inside their homes, keeping it cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. This not only enhances comfort but also reduces the workload on HVAC systems, leading to significant energy savings over time. For this reason, TVA is offering $500 cash rebate to get your whole attic up to at least an R-38 level. What level are you currently at? Well the EPA estimates 90% of homeowners fall under the recommended guidelines. Changes if you aren't in a brand new home, you could use a little more. Whether you currently have R-19 or R-35, TVA is going to pay you $500 to get up to R-38.

In conjunction with attic insulation, air sealing is another crucial aspect addressed by the TVA Energy Right program. Air sealing involves identifying and sealing any gaps, cracks, or openings in the home's exterior envelope that could allow conditioned air to escape or unconditioned air to infiltrate. Common areas for air leaks we look to seal include plumbing and electrical penetrations, can lights, and attic accesses. We will seal this with fire caulk, canned foam, weather stripping or other means in your attic and crawl space. TVA wants you to do this as well. So much so that they will pay you an additional $300 for getting the air sealing. That brings your cash rebate up to $800 for adding insulation and getting air sealing.

Sounds too good to be true right? We thought so too. So why did they increase rebates for a big summer push? TVA is being faced with a potential power grid situation. They have determined it would be far more cost effective to invest in increasing efficiency in consumption than adding more power to the grid. They have the science and the numbers showing how impactful these two simple home upgrades can be and are willing to pay lots of money to incetivize people to take action. You can read more about their program on their website here: Home - Helping people & businesses save on energy - TVA EnergyRight

So how do you claim your rebate? We will make that easy for you. Once we have completed your project, we will submit it to TVA. It takes about a week for it to process and then they will send an email simply asking for you to confirm the project was completed and paid for. When we submit it we will recieve your Project/Rebate # and send that to you along with a direct link to claim it. Claim your rebate! (mytva.com)

It may take a week for the project to process when claiming manually as well. Once claimed, TVA tells us your check will arrive within 2-4 weeks. Easy as that. Getting paid to do something that will already make your home more comfortable and save you money!

Another perk of this program is that being a Qualified Contractor with TVA, any of our customers can recieve a free full home energy assessment before or after we do our work. Part of the rebate program is also the ability to opt into a free inspection afterward. These are non-intrusive and won't be a hassle. Even if you do not opt for that inspection, about 10% of the projects will be inspected. Again, not intrusive, they just want to continually check up on our work and make sure we are keeping to the standards. Thankfully, we have been doing this same process for years already. Our goals have always been to increase home comfort and efficiency through attic insulation and ventilation. We are very proud to be able to continue doing the same things while alligning with TVA and now getting our customers cash back. This increased rebate program is to run through September of this year. With enough energy savings, the program will likely continue, but don't wait. Now is the perfect time anyway before those attic temperatures sky rocket!
